About domain transfer

Q: Can I transfer domains already registered with another registrar (i.e. Network Solutions) to you?
A: Yes. However, there are some conditions. We cannot do registrar transfers for domains that are On Hold or Past Due with the current registrar. To be on the safe side, you should start the registrar transfer process at least two weeks before the expiry of the domain.

The Admin Contact Email address for the domain must be valid.

Currently, the system only support registrar transfers for .com, .net and .org domains.

Once the registrar transfer order is processed, an Email will be sent to the Admin Contact Email address of the domain to be transferred.

Before you attempt to transfer a domain, make sure that the Admin Contact Email for the domain to be transferred is valid. If the Admin Contact Email address listed in the current whois info is no longer valid, you must contact the original registrar to request it be changed. We can't assist you in transferring the domain until the Admin Contact Email actually works, so we can verify who is accepting the transfer.

The confirmation Email contains a unique URL which displays an option to accept the registrar transfer (if you wish to decline, just ignore the request and it will time-out and cancel after 7 days).

Once the domain owner (the person who answers the Admin Contact Email address) agrees to the registrar transfer, it is reviewed by our sytem. Note that all transfers are sanity-checked to prevent high-profile domains like "aol.com" from being transferred fraudulently(some domains will require extra verification).

Then the request is sent to the Registry where it awaits approval.
Unless the losing Registrar explicitly denies the transfer (for instance, the account may not be "in good standing" with them), it will usually go through this step within 5 days. It can go through sooner if the losing registrar explicitly approves the transfer. This will vary from registrar to registrar.

The year(s) you paid is added on top of whatever time is remaining on the domain from the other registrar. E.g., if you registered foo.org with Network Solutions, and it has 2 years remaining on the registration, then after you paid for 1 year and a successful transfer it will expire in 3 years.

Please note that when you process a registrar transfer, it will not show up as "Active" until the transfer has completed successfully. It usually takes 3-5 days but may take as long as 10 days.

Q: How is contact information set in a registrar transfer?
A: When you make a request to transfer a domain from another
registrar to us, we will use your signup information (the name and address you used when signup for a free trial account) to set the Administrative and Billing contact information.

The nameserver entries will be:
ns1.name2host.com
ns2.name2host.com
since we will also provide hosting service.

Q: What factors could prevent or delay a registrar transfer?
A: Do you own the domain, or have you made arrangements with the owner to approve the transfer? Is the Admin contact Email address valid for the domain you wish to transfer? Has the domain been registered by the other registrar for longer than 60 days? (there is a mandatory waiting period for potential domain disputes) Is the account the original registrar "in good standing?" (paid in full)
